The Main Components of Selling Online

Who would have thought when the internet was just becoming a thing that it would become a place for business owners to build a presence and drive sales. Not me! Ask just about any business owner out there, and I’m sure they will tell you without a doubt that at least a portion of their sales comes from their presence online.

But before you can hop online and start selling whatever you’ve got to offer, you’ve got to cultivate an audience, build trust, and honestly, prove that you’re worth your salt! I’m breaking down the three main components of selling to help get you started on your online sales journey.

Social Media

Over the years, social media has become such an amazing hub for business owners to make. those. sales. Pretty much from 2023 on, social media is a non-negotiable for your business. If you’re looking at sales from a sales funnel perspective, social media is the top of your funnel.

Social media is all about creating an audience and a community, and this helps sales by bringing a larger audience to your profile and your offer. For sales, your social media profile is pretty much your elevator pitch to draw people in to buy. You’re highlighting who you are, what you do, and how you can help solve the problem that your audience so desperately needs solved!

Community Engagement

It isn’t enough to simply have a social media profile and call it a day. Even posting on social media alone is not enough! You’ve got to be engaging with your community! Nobody wants to buy from a faceless brand they know nothing about (would you!?). You have to be in your account showing up, building relationships, interacting with others, and engaging your community. For B2C marketing (and some B2B), this is absolutely essential.

By genuinely engaging with your audience through areas like your comments and DM’s, your audience will start to gain a deeper understanding of who you are, what you value, and they’ll ultimately come to trust your voice and authority!

Online Sales Funnel

This one is SO OFTEN overlooked - but it's so important! To make sales online, you need to build out a customer journey for your customers to go through. They need to be nurtured, get to know you, and learn about your offers. That is just part of what happens in a well-set-up sales funnel.

Try to avoid launching right into your sales pitch when members of your audience are just embarking on their journey with you. You don’t want to scare them off! Take things slow- be sure to show your audience that is showing interest in your offer that they are more than just another sale!

Do you have these three components in place?! If not... it may be time to start putting it together.
