Do Visuals Still Matter On Instagram?

It seems like there's a "guru" on every corner saying that visuals aren't important anymore on Instagram and you should stop focusing on how your posts look.

I COMPLETELY disagree.

I’m of the belief that regardless of how well static images are performing, the way they look does still matter. Here are a few of the reasons why I believe visuals still matter on Instagram and why you should keep at creating eye-catching content.

First Impressions Matter

When someone visits your page for the first (or second, third, or fifth) time, you want your message and who you are to be crystal clear. Not only that, when someone lands on your page, you should want to make a good first impression! Having clear branding and cohesive messaging shows that you care about how you’re showing up to represent yourself and your business online.

A Cohesive Brand Matters

Photography and graphic design are all part of your story and your brand. If you want someone to be able to recognize a post as “yours” as they are quickly scrolling through their feed or stories, you need to have visuals that stand out. You want to remain memorable in people’s minds. While the incredible work you do speaks for itself, cohesive branding takes that to another level. If your posts look like someone else’s, nobody will bother to stop and read them.

Aesthetics Matter

If someone visits your profile and it looks like a jumbled mess, what might people think that says about you or your business model? Not only that, if it feels like a mess they can’t untangle, they probably aren’t going to stick around long enough to try and solve the puzzle, let alone follow you. When your feed is visually pleasing, that adds one more reason to the long list of reasons why people should follow you and continue to get to know you!
